From Hiroko to Susie: The Untold Stories of Japanese War Brides

I really liked reading this and thought I might share it with GT. Hiroko Tolbert (the author’s mother) sounds like an absolute badass. It also reminds me of my grandmother, who married a soldier that she did not know at all (my grandpa was a total babe and it worked out, but still) and emigrated to the US from Korea with absolutely nothing. She survived starvation and terror during the Japanese annexation. She fought like hell so that all five of her kids could make something of themselves.
