The Alabama Senate today passed a bill to prohibit abortion clinics from locating near public schools.

Under the bill, the Department of Public Health could not license or renew a license for an abortion clinic within 2,000 feet of a K-8 public school.

Sen. Paul Sanford, R-Huntsville, the sponsor, said there are two public schools within that distance of the abortion clinic in Huntsville.

If the bill becomes law, Sanford said the Huntsville clinic might be allowed to stay in place because it was already there.

But he said that would not defeat the purpose of the bill.

“My hope is that no more in the state would ever open that close to small children,” Sanford said.

The bill passed by a vote of 27-6. It moves to the House of Representatives.

I really want to know how a clinic being near a school is an actual problem. Take away the protestors with hideous and falsified signs and children would have no clue a building was a clinic, much less an abortion clinic.
