I am writing the following sentence.
I was “wiretapped”.
Trump also used that. I looked it up to see if its grammatically correct. Best I could find was the idea of scare quotes. It seems to be more internet amd casual slang then anything correct. Like using the word ain’t. In Trump’s case he appears to be using the quotes to mean “its kinda like”.
I use quotes around phrases, for emphasis and to use a colloquilism. I doubt none are correct.
What are the rules for quote symbols when not quoting someone. I suspect the quotes are as meaningless as air quotes.
