The world will never know, but I’m pleased about these two things:
- Senate votes unanimously to recommit to NATO’s Article 5 (the one where an attack on our ally is considered an attack on us, that Trump took out of his fucking speech to NATO at the last minute against Tillerson and Mattis’s wishes). Worth noting: Trump did commit to the article recently after he fucked that up in Europe.
- Senate votes 97-3 to beef up sanctions on Russia for meddling in our election. I’m really over this “we know they meddled, what a big deal this is!” commentary coming from the same fucking Republicans who have been slow or obstructive in permitting actual investigations to get to the bottom of it. This is right after the administration reportedly considered lifting or loosening sanctions on Russia.
We’ll see what the House has to say I guess. And I suppose there is a veto or two in our future. But still.
Tangential update: Apparently there is a special counsel investigating Kushner’s business dealings. Weren’t they already doing that?? I cannot keep track.
