So I’ve always heard that Kaiser Permanente has abysmal mental health services, but I’ve had such a good experience with everything else that I hoped that was overstated. It wasn’t.

About 3 months ago I called to schedule an appointment with a shrink, at which point I was told I could “start the process” by attending a group informational meeting. The first appointment for a group informational meeting was two months in the future. After that meeting, they scheduled me for a follow-up one-on-one — not to see a doctor, but to determine if they would even put me on the waiting list to see a doctor — a month later.

That appointment was supposed to be today, but they just called to cancel and tell me they’re pushing me to the back of the line, so I can’t even get an appointment to consider whether I can get a real appointment for another 6 weeks.

Assuming they don’t cancel that appointment as well, and that they decide I’m worthy of mental health care, at that point they’ll put me at the end of a list to see a shrink. Wait times for those appointments are apparently anywhere from 2-4 months. So at this point, the minimum it will take me from when I called for an appointment to when I can actually see a doctor is 6 months, and that’s only if I get “lucky” and manage to get the shortest possible wait times from here on out.

That’s fucking insane.
