The Toronto Rehabilitation Clinic has been doing research into winter boots to try to prevent injury from slips and falls. They have tested a large number of winter boots to see how they perform on ice and developed a ranking system. Interestingly tread shape seems to have little to do with it, and tread material is far more important.

Apparently most of the boots currently on the market performed really poorly. Only 1 women’s boot even ranked for casual boots. They hope to use this data to encourage boot manufacturers to improve their product.
