This morning, someone at work sent an email to the entire company. Not just everyone in our office. Everyone who works for this company anywhere in the world.

I work in an engineering department. When someone sends technical information, such as this email, my coworkers tend to assume that the sender is male. Despite a traditionally exclusively feminine name, I often receive emails addressing me with male pronouns. And, while this annoys me, I'm sure I'm guilty of making similar assumptions.

The gender of the mass-emailer is not clear. But, on this occasion, my colleagues have decided to refer to this person as "she".

So apparently technical people are probably men. Unless they drop a bollock, as it were, in which case, they're probably women.
