My housemate brought a tray of ribs home from a party this weekend, and I had plateful for dinner. When I was done eating, I went to get Buster's leash... and Buster didn't come. This is very odd behavior—usually he runs so fast as soon as he sees me heading in that general direction he nearly smashes into the door—so I was perplexed, more so when he continued to not come after I called him.

So I went to investigate where (it looked like) he was playing with his rope toy by the coffee table, just in time to see him hastily trying to hide the rib he was chewing on. I don't know how the hell he did it—I don't think I ever let the plate out of my sight and usually I hear him moving because his tags jingle—but somehow he managed to jump up and steal an entire rib from my plate while I was eating without my noticing. And then arrange it cleverly behind his rope toy where I couldn't see it so he could gnaw on it in peace (I'm probably giving him way too much credit with that one, but still). I was laughing too hard to even scold him for it, though of course I promptly confiscated it (he gave it up easily enough, but when we got back from our walk he spent a good 15 minutes forlornly wandering the living room and sniffing the air trying to find it again).

Clearly I need to start watching my food more closely! Though goddamn, he was so cute trying hide the bone. And I really wish I could have seen the actual steal. He must have timed it to the second...
