Eight year old Antonio Laguna has an extremely rare condition known as ROHHAD (Rapid-onset Obesity with Hypothalamic dysfunction, Hypoventilation and Autonomic Dysregulation). This condition, of which there are less than 100 known cases world-wide, causes the patient to stop breathing unexpectedly. It also interferes with a patient's ability to feel full and as such often leads to childhood obesity.
Antonio's condition led him to take up gardening, as a way to produce healthy food for himself. The Make a Wish Foundation has helped him with this by building a greenhouse, and planting an orchard.
What makes this story extra sweet is that Antonio wants to share the produce of his garden with hungry people. He wants it to be a community garden where anyone who wants can come and pick food.http://www.kcentv.com/story/26135217/antonio-finally-gets-his-make-a-wish
When Make a Wish first contacted Antonio he thought about asking for a trip to see the Great Wall of China, but then decided that "wishes should last" and settled on the garden.
The garden was planted with the help of soldiers from 115th Brigade Support Battalion "Muleskinner," 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. Antonio's father had been an armorer in the Muleskinners until his medical retirement in 2014.http://www.army.mil/article/130873/Cav_Soldiers__Make_a_Wish_collaborate_for_ill_child/
