I have struggled with my internet usage for many years—using everything from leechblock and stayfocused to just turning off my wireless card when I'm trying to work. But, when part of your job is posting to and maintaining social media sites just blocking them all out isn't going to work very well. Nothing really makes a dent in my obsessive unconscious interwebbing.

But, I have been using TimeDoctor for just over a week now, and I've been much more productive than usual. It would feel a little bit (0k... a lot) big brother-y if my employer were imposing it on me, but damn, it sure does work.

My biggest time waster is an automatic tendency to open a new tab to do random browsing while I'm waiting for a file to open—or even just when I hit a road block. The mindless browsing kills me. But, with TD I get a friendly little popup reminder "Hi, are you working on _____?" Often that's all it takes to make me aware of the behavior and get back on track.

It seems like we have many dissertation-writing, business doing, computer-programming internet LOVERS among our ranks, so I just thought I'd pass it along.
