Unsure of everyone’s familiarity with the Jason Stockley case. High level recap - Stockley was a white cop, in 2011 he and his partner were on patrol. Anthony Lamar Smith was a black man suspected of something something drugs AKA being outside while black. There was an altercation with Smith’s car and the cop car. Cops rammed Smith’s car. Stockley got out and shot Smith 5 times, killing him.

The judge is expected tomorrow to make a ruling on the 1st degreee murder charges. No one I know expects the judge to rule Stockley is guilty. Despite the fucking ton of evidence to the contrary.

Clergy members sent a letter to the judge last week saying any unrest caused by his ruling is on him to shoulder the blame. Asshole gov. Greitens has already activated the National Guard.

I don’t doubt there will be peaceful and emotionally-charged protesting which will be warped into something violent when escalated by the cops and National Guard.

From the Post-Dispatch article:

Stockley and his partner saw what appeared to be a drug transaction in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant on Dec. 20, 2011. As the officers sought to corner Smith, he drove away. Stockley’s defense attorney, Neil Bruntrager, said the officers were nearly run over. Stockley fired at the fleeing car, then a car chase began.

Police dashcam video captured Stockley saying, “going to kill this (expletive), don’t you know it,” in the midst of the chase. As Smith’s car slowed, Stockley told his partner to slam the police SUV into it, and his partner did so. Stockley then got out of the SUV and fired five shots into Smith’s car, killing him.

Bruntrager said Stockley fired only after Smith refused commands to put up his hands and reached along the seat toward an area where a gun was found. But prosecutors said Stockley planted the gun. Testing found Stockley’s DNA on the gun, but not Smith’s.

My friend watched the dashcam video on youtube. He said the force of the impact of the cops hitting Smith’s car would have knocked any gun off the seat where Stockley claimed to have “found” it. Also, after the shooting, Stockley can be seen digging around in a backpack in the backseat of his squad car before going and sitting in the driver’s seat of Smith’s car. Smith had already been murdered and pulled out of the car by this point.

The St. Louis Ethical Society of Police (the union representing POC officers) has made a public statement that Stockley is guilty of murder.
