So, the local news tonight just finished a story about Town Hall meetings in Ferguson, MO. The high points were things like — are the police over-militarized? what can be done to bring more small businesses in? etc

The very next segment — police feel outgunned by the weaponry criminals. They referenced the North Hollywood, CA, bank robbery in the 1990s where the LAPD apparently had to borrow rifles from gun shops. Cuz that's a really current example.

Anyhoo, Wellston Police Dept has just acquire 8 M-16s and a military surplus Humvee.

Wellston has about 2460 residents. It's a tiny municipality in NW St. Louis County. Their Police Chief was interviewed talking about how the criminals already have these weapons and aren't afraid to use them.

I've yet to recall a local situation where police didn't have firepower capable of meeting their needs. I can recall MANY where people (criminals, suspects, and innocent people) were shot by the police. Seems totally lopsided - those criminals totally have the upper hand with weapons!
