“It was like they were more comfortable with the rape scene in Precious than the love scene in Empire,” she told Buzzfeed.
So some of you may have heard about the anger directed at Gabourey Sidibe’s 50 second sex scene at the beginning of Empire. Here’s her response:
“On that love scene…” (From Gabourey Sidibe’s Facebook)
Also, yes. I, a plus sized, dark-skinned woman, had a love scene on primetime television. I had the most fun ever filming that scene even though I was nervous. But I felt sexy and beautiful and I felt like I was doing a good job. I’m very proud of the work we all did to make that scene a great opening for the episode. I keep hearing that people are “hating” on it. I’m not sure how anyone could hate on love but that’s okay. You may have your memes. Honestly, I’m at work too busy to check Twitter anyway. #Booked. Hope you enjoy next week’s show!
Also, I do have to say. I never understood how it was a shock that people who aren’t young, slim/fit and attractive have sex. Yo, sorry to burst your bubble, but your grandparents probably have had sex, numerous times in their old age. People who have a little extra, people who’re kinda curvy, people who are chunky, people who are plus sized, and people who are fat have sex, believe it or not. They have families, have kids, and do all the other things most people do. Hell, some exercise constantly, and still for whatever reason can’t change their appearance, and why should they want to? It’s body autonomy, and it’s no one's business but their own, how they want to live. Understand? Good.
