Y’all, I have had it about up to here with Tina Fey. I really, really, really want to like her; it seems like she’s helped make a lot of progress for women in comedy and women centered shows, etc. But with all of the issues she’s had in the past, and the current issues with Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and now this article

I’m just about done with her as a person. I adore Kimmy Schmidt, but Tina saying shit like

“The Internet was in a whirlwind, calling [the show] ‘racist’, but my new goal is not to explain jokes,” she continues. “There’s a real culture of demanding apologies, and I’m opting out of that.”

is killing me. Tina, WE GOT THE JOKE. No one is asking you to explain the joke to us. People were asking why you felt the need to make it in the first place and if YOU understood how problematic it was and if you had a good explanation for why you chose to go that route. People aren’t demanding apologies as much as they are just demanding that you don’t put racist shit on your shows. She sounds like a drunk old uncle being like “Oh you didn’t laugh at my joke? YOU MUST NOT HAVE UNDERSTOOD”. No, drunk uncle, it just wasn’t funny and it was kind of racist.

Tina, if you are reading this, please, you can be very very funny without being horrible. There are plenty of things on say, Kimmy Schmidt that are hilarious and pointed without being, you know, shitty. Stop pretending that we are attacking your “art” and ability when really what is being attacked is your common decency. No one gets to exist in a vacuum where they put out whatever schlock they want without having to defend or explain it.
