I'm going home to St. Louis next weekend (!) to visit my family for the holidays. It will be the first time I've gone back to Missouri since I moved out here (San Jose, CA).
I'm sure I've mentioned this at least once or twice, but I had to fly out here so I pretty much had to condense my life's possessions into whatever I could stuff into a few pieces of luggage. (It sounds so romantic and bohemian, but it's really not.)
My plan for a while has been to use my Christmas vacation to gather up more of my belongings that I want out here, but I'm not sure how exactly I'm getting them out here. At first I thought maybe I'd just pack them in boxes and send them to myself before I left, but forever reason, dealing with shipping companies (I'm looking at you, UPS) has been a huge headache since I moved here.
Lately I've been thinking I should just put my stuff in a large suitcase and take it with me on the flight back as checked luggage. I'm going to have to spend money either way whether it's shipping or a luggage fee, so I might as well have it on the plane with me. The only problem with this plan is that heading to St.Louis I won't need a giant suitcase, and I don't think there are any spare suitcases at my mom's house (where I'll be staying), so I don't actually have anything to put my extra stuff in when I go from St. Louis to San Jose. I don't know what to do, although I have a feeling I'm making this way more complicated than it has to be. I'm just way too burned out from dealing with UPS, and I'm impatient to be reunited with some of my belongings.
On a related note, I have a modest collection of vinyl records (maybe 20-30 albums), and I miss them way more than I thought I would. I want to get them out here somehow (doesn't have to be at Christmas), but I really have no clue how to go about doing that.
