From Talking points memo -
Lemon was moderating a discussion of President Donald Trump’s frequent trips away from the White House, and the costs to taxpayers they incur. Paris Dennard, a former staffer in the George W. Bush administration and now a political analyst and commentator, called the story “fake news”
“The President is not breaking any laws, and he’s not doing anything,” Dennard said.
Lemon stopped him. “Fake news is when you put out a story to intentionally deceive someone and you know that it is wrong.” He added: “This story that we’re doing right now is not to intentionally deceive anyone. We are simply talking about the cost to keep a President safe.”
“Please stop it with that stupid talking point, that it is a fake news story,” Lemon said. “If you don’t want to participate in the news stories on this network, then don’t come on and participate. But don’t call them fake because you don’t agree with them. Go on.”
“Don, this is a fake news story, in my opinion,” Dennard responded, “because the underlying assumption is that— ”
“Okay, Paris, thank you very much everyone,” Lemon interrupted, ending the show early. “Thanks everyone, thanks for watching. Have a great weekend. Goodnight, all.”
I’m sure we’ll be battling some more insane talking points after Orange Hitler’s ego-stroking rally today, but just thought I’d throw this in under the wire.
They’re trying to re-define ‘fake news’ as ‘anything they don’t agree with.’ All this segment was about is how much Trump’s security and his family’s security is costing the taxpayers. We have numbers on this. Without throwing any opinion down, it’s still a fact.
And on that subject...Trump is spending millions on his lavish trips to Mar-A-Lago every weekend. Also, we are footing the bill for his adult children. Even when they go overseas and conduct business for their own gain. From TheHill -
According to the estimate, Trump’s three trips to the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida since the inauguration cost approximately $10 million in travel, security and more.
Guarding the Trump Tower in New York City, the current residence of the first lady Melania Trump and their son Barron, would cost the taxpayers $183 million a year. Melania and Barron are expected to move to the White House at the end of the school year.
Additional costs also included $100,000 in hotel fees for Secret Service personnel that accompanied Eric Trump’s trip to Uruguay, and another estimated $1.5 million a year to rent appropriate space for authorities in the Trump Tower, if the Pentagon decides to prepare for the commander-in-chief’s possible to return to his Manhattan residence.
Judicial Watch, a conservative organization that tracked Obama’s travel expenses, calculated that approximately $97 million was spent on on protection during his two terms in office.
But it’s all ok...cause he’s not taking that 400k/yr salary.
So far the excuse Trumpers have given is that ‘Any president with that many kids would need this kind of security.’ Lol...imagine how they’d react if Obama had done this.
