Mariana Mazzucato discusses the role government funded research plays in our economy and asks a very important question: Why is risky research and development socialized by taxpayers, when the rewards of such risks are turned over to corporations and never shared with taxpayers? When it comes down to it, government is responsible for huge amounts of innovative products (such as medicine) that is then allowed to drive huge profits for corporations. In effect, we as taxpayers pay for innovation twice (sometimes more than twice). Anyway, here is the video- I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
