This is a random post that just sprung to mind. Everyone’s witnessed some huge misrepresentation of a word or idiom that’s either hilariously wrong or actively annoying. Like “irregardless”. Seems like a lot of us are having a rough day/week, so I thought something frivolous might be fun.

What really gets me is when people say “fragrant” instead of “flagrant”. My background is in international affairs and I often edit other people’s work. Right in the middle of reading a paper on some very serious topic (torture, sexual violence, ethnic cleansing, what have you) I come upon: “a fragrant violation of human right” and I JUST CANNOT CONTAIN MYSELF. I immediately start thinking about what that might be. Heating fish in a microwave? Wearing too much perfume in a public place? Don’t leave us hanging - we need to know the extent of this fragrant violation!

What’s your favourite or most annoying error? Any that you had for a long time, maybe growing up before you knew better?
