This op-ed in the NYT details the discovery of a saboteur in a research lab. For me though, the part of the story that isn’t discussed is more interesting. Why was everyone so quick to assume that the researcher sabotaged herself (a view held not only by others in the program but by the police as well)?

Do any GT scientists want to weigh in on whether a male researcher would have been absolved of this suspicion and his claims taken immediately seriously? I wonder how many people go through life with vague suspicions attached to them because of crimes others have committed against them.
