I just called her up for the first time in a while and she casually brought up the fact that she now realizes that the religion she has been a part of her entire life (and the one I was raised in) is a cult and that no organization that treated her the way they did can claim to be the mouthpiece of God. She said she sees now that it is nothing but a vast corporation with its own interests at heart. My aunt has come to the same conclusions and they are now very close. One side-effect of this realization is that they can no longer associate with friends and family still in the organization (that part really hurts). But they are supporting each other and my mom also has my younger brother and my dad. And me, but I'm so far away I barely count. My mom actually said that my leaving this religion was THE RIGHT CHOICE. She has been nothing but disapproving (at best) of the choice I made years ago so our relationship has been incredibly strained. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT CONVERSATION JUST FUCKING HAPPENED I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW LOL.
