As a teenager, I had breakouts but they were pretty reasonable to deal with. For most of my adult life, I’ve had almost regularly clear skin with maybe one or two zits a month. And then last spring, my skin totally flipped out and I ended up with a terrible hormonal breakout (fuck you 2016!)
It’s 8 months later and still not perfect, but I figured I’d share how amazing the progression has been all these many months. (Kitten filter so it doesn’t put anyone off without warning).
The top left is after one month on Spironolactone, so just imagine the month prior being even worse than that. It was so awful, I couldn’t even bring myself to take pictures. The top right picture is the same cheek this morning.
On the bottom left is from 3 months in when we added in Differin and Curology. My Spironolactone was also bumped up from 50mg a day to 75mg.
The bottom middle 5 months in when my Spironolactone was bumped up from 75mg per day to 100mg per day, and after I started birth control pills for my ovarian cyst issues.
The bottom right is 7 months in when Differin was swapped out for Retin-A because of the cost. Now my treatment routine is 100mg of Spironolactone and BC pill at night, Retin-A (Tretinoin) 0.05% nightly, and Curology during the day.
It’s been a pain in the butt to control, but thank goodness it’s working!
