So Gawker posted about Sunil Dutta's Op-Ed in the Washington Post entitled: "I'm a cop. If you don't want to get hurt, don't challenge me." And in reading the piece, the thing that could not escape my mind is how much his defense of cops using force reads exactly like the excuses that domestic abusers use for hurting their partners. Is it any wonder that the number of domestic abuse reports by police are nearly twice the average rate? I don't know anything about Mr. Dutta's personal life and am not accusing him of anything, but it is important to examine how institutionalized abuse of power plays out on all levels.
