I am on the fence about this case. I do not think a case like this would be conceivable 20 plus years ago. Although there was usenet and email but nothing like today.

Can words kill? Where is the line between urging someone to kill themselves and personal responsibility. As Parker wrote she literally was not anywhere near him but her texts were.

We have seen too often cyberbullying leading to suicide. Cyberbullies are the feces of society. In some ways this was worse since Carter veiled everything in caring yet it was manipulation.

I am troubled by the part where Parker said boys are more vulnerable then girls.Date rape and physical abuse in teen relationships make the young women more vulnerable. Although I may have missed her point.

Roy was though mentally vulnerable and had psychological issues like depression. Which she exploited.

If she was with him phsyically I can see the conviction. Yet she was not. So where is the line between words and personal responsibility. Morally what she did was pure evil. Legally? Immoral behavior does not mean illegal behavior.

I do think if this case holds on appeal prosecutors need to go after cyberbullies in which suicide is the result.

I am no fan of Parker but every once in a while she makes me think.

Thoughts?
