I’ve been trying to read Jon Krakauer’s latest book — I adore “Into Thin Air” and “Three Cups of Deceit” and “Under The Banner Of Heaven” — but I think I’m out.

I can’t handle the combination of the victim’s stories and the shitty shitty police work going on in a lot of them (I am fiercely pro-police in many things, but I hold all officers to a high standard and these ones are mostly criminally bad at their very important job).

It’s just as well written as any of his other works but...I stopped to read “In the Garden of Beasts” by Erik Larson about pre-war Nazi Germany as an emotional break. And I feel like I can't go back.
