So for my job we deal with a lot of names. And one of the things we have to do is clean up files and move first and last names into separate columns. A new tool was developed to make this process easier, and one of the managers (the one I don’t like) had to do a training.

The demo file she used had a lot of Middle Eastern names on it, and one employee asked what happens if the tool doesn’t distinguish between first and last names and the files we get have them formatted more than one way. Then, the manager continued her demo and used a “Kathy Johnson” as an example of how to figure out which is which. Then, at the end of the meeting, she made a throwaway comment to her file saying, “Well, with names like these...”

I IMed my co-worker and said, “OMG SHE DID NOT JUST SAY THAT.” He agreed it was pretty racist, and then we both complained to our direct report boss and she was also offended. So she’s sent hers and our complaints to her boss.

Ugh. Happy Monday.
