Last week, Star Magazine (I know, bastion of excellent journalism) put together a list of their 20 most hated celebrities and it's been bothering me ever since. There's something incredibly problematic to me that the people on the list are primarily successful women (2/3 of the people on the list are women, and 80% of the top ten are women), where say someone like Chris Brown - a known abuser with anger management problems and misogyny - barely makes the list at number 20.

Gwenyth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart - these are our top three. Now, everyone's welcome to be personally irritated by Gwenyth's silver spoon lifestyle advice, or Kristen Stewart's demeanor if that's your bag, but what the hell is wrong with things out there that as a whole, there's more hate for these women than there is for a man who has a felony assault record?

Take Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They have the same family and personal life (excepting of course, Brad left another woman for her) but career-wise Angelina is a known humanitarian, a successful woman who's trying to not only create change in the world but also advance professionally by creating her own films. Brad stars in a few big blockbusters every now and then. But you'd never, ever conceive of Brad on a most hated list - where as it's not completely surprising to find Angelina here. Why?
