Not a carny yet...still student teaching. I’ve completed Week 2 with my 1st graders.

I had a nice moment with a kid I’ve been struggling with lately. He tends to be pretty disruptive and talks constantly. I try to have good interactions with him, because I am more often than not feeling pretty annoyed by him.

The classroom has a tradition of rotating the languages in which we say “thank you” and “you’re welcome.”

Today it was Tagalog. I, for the life of me, cannot remember how to say “you’re welcome” in Tagalog. I had two students teach me. We just spent a few minutes, with them saying the words and me practicing them. I eventually got the hang of it. I thanked them and walked away, only to be surprised by a huge bear hug from behind. I turn around and it is the kid I’ve been struggling with. All I did was admit that I was a dumbass and needed their help. He was my lil’ buddy the rest of the day. I do need to remind myself that we don’t really know each other, so things get better once we’ve made a connection.

I am so exhausted, but I feel like that closed out the week in the best way possible.
