Yesterday I got up the courage to ask for a raise. I'm on a fixed-term position so I wasn't sure if this was even possible but I've recently taken on some extra responsibilities and I thought a raise was a reasonable request, especially because I'm certain that is what a man would do in my situation

Well, turns out that my position is not only fixed-term but fixed-salary. Raise denied. I'm deciding if I should feel:

1) Proud that I had the courage to ask my (male) supervisor for a raise?

2) Upset that I was denied said raise?

The paranoid feminist in me is currently going with #2 because there is this voice in the back of my head that questions whether my salary really is fixed and wonders what would happen if I had asked for that raise if I were a man...
