GOOD NEWS: I am no longer unemployed! Woot Woot!
SLIGHTLY LESS GOOD NEWS: The salary is quite low for living in NYC and paying off student debt at the same time. I am grateful to have an offer for gainful employment, don't get me wrong, but it's 2k lower than the 35k starting salary that is typical for this position in the industry.
Everyone says that I should make a counter offer of like 36 or 37k. How do I do this and not seem like an ass. I am going to take the job no matter what (because unemployment sucks) but that extra 3-4 thousand dollars could actually make a huge difference in my baseline anxiety level for the next year.
So what do y'all think? They called me with the offer then emailed the letter. Do I respond with an email asking for more moolah? What do I say? Guide me, oh wise internet gurus!
