So I called my vet to try to schedule an appointment for tomorrow, and she told me in no uncertain terms to take her to the emergency vet tonight. I was waffling because of all your advice and because I know they’re always going to air on the side of caution, but I finally decided I wasn’t willing to chance it.

I think it was a good decision, because it turned out she had several small puncture wounds on her chest and side that I didn’t see at all. Her fur is pretty long right now — she was actually scheduled for a grooming tomorrow.

Apparently none of the wounds are TOO bad, but a couple are going to require staples. The vet is giving her a long lasting antibiotic shot and sending her home with pain meds and an anti-inflammatory, and she needs to take it easy for a few weeks.

I’m mostly worried about what the hell I’m going to do about walking her — I’d planned to get a harness to avoid her neck, but since she’s got the punctures on her chest and side that won’t work. The vet suggested trying a slip lead wound around the side of her neck without the punctures and then under her front leg. We’ll see how that works.

The main thing is, she’s stable, nothing looks too major and I get to take her home tonight.

ETA: Here’s a pic. It looks so much scarier when it’s not hidden by fur.
