My classroom has a “Peace Place.”
It’s our school’s equivalent of Time Out, with less-negative connotations, off to the corner. For example, students can elect to go there to self-regulate.
Despite this, I also send them there when they need to chill the eff out.
They have taken to singing “The Sound of Silence” when they get sent there.
I’ll send a kid over and I’ll hear a little voice start singing, “Hello, darkness, my old friend...”
Where are they hearing this song? It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen/heard, but I have to pretend it isn’t because being a grown-up sucks.
