My youngest (9, fourth grade) has always been friendly with the kids at school, and while many of his classmates probably considered him a friend, he has never been close enough with any of them to want to ask them to come to his house, or to be asked home by any of them. This has, on occasion, caused him some distress, since his brother has two very close friends at school with whom he occasionally hangs out outside of school. My child when his brother gets invited to his buddy’s house:
He walks home from school, and has been doing so since last spring. He came in the door today WITH A FRIEND
and they are currently downstairs playing Super Smash Bros and clearly having a blast.
This makes me extremely happy. My kid has a buddy; it’s a miracle!
I know this doesn’t really sound like a big deal, but really, for my son this is huge.
