So this just happened on the Hipster Names post on the main page...
I'm guessing "Eyelet" is a play on the Hebrew name Ayelet, which means "gazelle." It's not uncommon—I know two or three Ayelets.
Then you need to make some lifestyle changes
... ... you recognize this could be construed as a blatantly antisemitic thing to say, yes?
^[NOTE TO GT: giving the benefit of the doubt here, since maybe they were just thinking like "Ugh! What a terrible name!" and completely overlooking, like "You know a lot of Jews!"]
It was 100% against Jews not assimilating when it comes to naming their kids. Whether you name your kid something ridiculous out of ethnic tradition or being a hipster the result is the same, Ayelet or Shlomo are still spending their days getting mocked and/or beaten up instead of focused on their studies. Should that be the way society is? No. Should you make your kid's growing up experience the battleground for fighting the good fight? No. Asian parents all give their kids traditional names but then also Americanized names and it's the best of both worlds because the parents have this special name, special bond that maybe only they know, but then they also know they're giving their child the best chance to succeed in the real world.
It cracked me up how you were like "... ..........uh...........did you.......um.......accidentally say something antisemitic that you want to take back" What world do you live in? Candy Land? Are you upset because your daughter is named Ayelet or something? And, if so, when she inevitably comes home some day crying because someone made fun of her and she lays weeping in your arms are you seriously going to be able to justify her bitter tears to have given yourself the self-satisfaction of naming her fucking Ayelet instead of, say, Rebecca?
Seriously? SERIOUSLY? I fucking can't even.
^If anyone cares to feed this racist-ass troll...
