I've been watching Wattstax, the 1973 documentary about the 1972 concert commemorating the seventh anniversary of the Watts Riots. It's amazing. The music, perfect 70s soul, R&B, and blues, is incredible. The commentary and interviews of Richard Pryor and the people of Watts is funny, thoughtful, moving and inspiring. The fashions...my god, the fashions! The hair and clothes are the best. You have to see it. It's a glorious time machine.

This is the clip that got me started this morning: Rufus Thomas singing Breakdown and Funky Chicken.

And the whole movie is here, if you feel like dancing for a couple hours.

I'm going to go record shopping now.
