This morning, Max Read pulled out this incredibly stupid excerpt from a David Brooks piece on class division.
Because I’m a glutton for punishment, I had to read more. This piece is some half baked trash. While, yes, there are class divisions set up by the upper middle class that create barriers to the middle and lower classes, this doesn’t necessarily mean that those in middle and lower classes are somehow too stupid or blind to see and work past them. Last I checked podcasts are free and intersectionality is something that affects mostly the middle and lower classes, not some fancy catchphrase for the comfortably wealthy to throw around to feel important.
When it comes down to it, this whole article is just about David Brooks and his own personal brand of snobbery. My high school graduating ass holds up just fine at a dinner table of academics and lawyers. And that’s because no one gives a shit how complicated the names of meats sound on my sandwich.
