On the one hand, I’m usually the first to say a year is too soon to be engaged for most people. For example, this was a recent conversation with my co-worker/friend:

Me: so how long have you been dating your girlfriend?

Him: almost a year

Me: oh cool, congrats!

Him: yeah, I’m thinking it’s about time to propose

Me: are you joking right now?

(I literally couldn’t tell. It was awkward. We’re both in our mid-twenties, if it matters.)

On the other hand, this guy just seems like such an insensitive jerk. “My girlfriend whose last relationship ended because she wanted to get married and he didn’t, and who has made it very clear to me that she wants to be married soon, is getting all upset because I keep making jokes about how I’m going to marry her while refusing to have any actual serious conversation about when I want to get married. Why are bitches so emotional, amirite?”
