When I was 7 years old, I was friends with two very mild-mannered sisters who were in 4th and 6th grade respectively. One day while we were hanging out, a girl I had never met approached us and told us that her friend was going to beat us up. These were 4th graders who didn’t go to school with any of us, so how they singled us out I had no idea. Anyway the oldest of my friends asked her why, and she said it was because we were calling her friend a slut.

That was my first time ever hearing the word, so I went home and asked my sister what it meant. She asked me where I learned it, and I told her all about how we were gonna get beat up because some girl thought we called her a slut.

My sister approached these girls the next day, while my friends and I cowered behind her. We watched this 10 year old accuse us of calling her a slut, with my sister shouting over her ,“They don’t even know what that word means!” In the end, my sister forced her to apologize and then we became friends.

Once we were friends, we asked her what it meant because my sister never explained it to me. She told us that it meant she kissed a lot of boys. I think I said something about that being weird and dumb to call someone that. And we never talked about it again.

And that is how I learned the word “Slut.”
