I haven’t seen any book threads recently, and reading was my first true love. Come tell us what you’re reading, what you’ve read recently, what you’re reading next.
I’m currently reading Servants: A Downstairs History of Britain from the Nineteenth-Century to Modern Times by Lucy Lethbridge. It’s fascinating. I’ve read a couple of similar books, but this one is really quite comprehensive, and includes a lot of quotes from former servants diaries and letters.
I’m also currently reading Kings, Queens, Bones & Bastards: Who’s Who in the English Monarchy from Egbert to Elizabeth II by David Hilliam, which is... not, perhaps, as accurate as it should be, but has some interesting trivia, anyway. I like that he covers the kings and queens of the old Anglo-Saxon monarchies, which is something that a lot of books about English royalty leave out.
I just finished reading An Irish Country Wedding by Patrick Taylor. It’s #7 in a series of 11. I like his writing style. It’s similar to the James Herriot books, except it’s a people-doctor, not an animal doctor. Set in Ireland in the 60’s.
I have no idea what I’m reading next!
