I am happily spoken for. Today I was on the train heading home, reading a book on my Kindle, when the guy sitting next to me asked me if I liked reading on it. I answered his question, but soon the question turned into a friendly conversation. We talked about what we do, where we went to school, and travel. I told him that I was moving on July 20th to a new city. As we pulled up to his stop he said "Since you're going to be around for a few more weeks, do you want to take my number and maybe we can hang out?" He gave me his number and then left (and, whoops, I forgot his name).

Okay. Here's the question: was Train Guy hitting on me? Or was this a friendly encounter between two potential friends? I didn't want to shout "I HAVE A BOYFRIEND BACK OFF BUDDY" because I did not want to seem like I assumed that he was hitting on me if he wasn't. I'm open to making friends of all genders, but I am highly satisfied with the boyfriend I've got so no thanks on that front. What did this interaction MEAN?

Follow up question: If he was hitting on me, what should I have said when he offered me his number? Is there something I should have said either way?
