(It’s not me.) I need advice, and it seems like there are an awful lot of lovely put-together ladies around here who might be able to help. I am relatively clueless when it comes to makeup, but I need to figure it out because I’m going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding in a couple weeks and am on my own to figure it out. I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay someone $75 to do it for me.

So. What do I do? I don’t wear any makeup normally (in case you couldn’t tell that from my general cluelessness). I own some concealer that I use when I have a bad pimple. On rare occasions when I’m getting fancy, I have a couple lipsticks/glosses, and black mascara (which always comes out clumpy). I also own some bronzy eyeshadow that I once used for a Halloween costume.

People have told me in the past to go to Sephora and they’ll get me set up. But then I heard from my sister that she had to throw out* the foundation they sold her there, because it only looked right in the store lighting but was completely wrong once she got it home. (Though she has very fair skin and I gather that it can be a problem getting a good match.)

So I think my question is twofold: what makeup products should I get, and where should I get them? I want a natural look and to just not look washed out in pictures. I also don’t want to spend a ton of money because these products are not going to get a lot of use.

Help!

*I had no idea the line about throwing out Sephora foundation would cause people such stress. I don’t know if she literally threw it out, just that it wasn’t right. She may very well have returned it.
