What brought us to this common place? Even you "guys" out there (who we know are actually big, hairy lesbians, because men aren't feminists). (I'm kidding, in case that wasn't obvious.)

I grew up with it. My mom is a lesbian and before the internet, the lesbian community where I grew up was pretty small and close-knit. I was, I think, vastly more aware of gender issues than my peers growing up. I can't remember sexuality, feminism, and gender identity ever being something I was unfamiliar with.

I'm so glad my mom is who she is, I look up to her in almost everything I do. I love my dad, for sure, but he's a conservative born-again baptist and that kind of doesn't mesh well with a lot of my ideals.
