We’re so close to Halloween! Anyone enjoying a good horror/thriller book right now?
I bought a cheapo copy of The House of Seven Gables to read in preparation for Halloween and... it’s so boring? The copy I have is right around 360 pages long and I’m about 160 in and just can’t get into it. Historically, I’ve liked Hawthorne but I put it down and picked up White Teeth the other night and a) immediately got into the world of that story and b) started sleeping better at night! (I’ve long believed that reading for bed allows me to turn off my “real life” brain and focus on the fiction—I am vindicated!)
Anyway, I hope y’all are having better luck with scary reading than I am this Halloween season!
And, as always, please tell us:
- What book did you most recently finish?
- What are you reading now?
- What’s next on your “to read” list?
- Do you have/need any book recs?
