We're coming up on the 30th anniversary of the summer of 1984, and looking back I realize that it was the most 80s of years, especially in terms of movies. This was the first year that I really started paying attention to when movies came out, and it's amazing what came out that year. There were the mainstream hits that everyone remembers (Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Beverly Hills Cop, The Karate Kid, Footloose) but also arthouse hits like Cal, Amadeus, Blood Simple, and Paris, Texas).
There was also pure trash, from bloated 70s holdover action pics like The Jigsaw Man to cheesy imports like Ator 2 - L'invincibile Orion, AKA Blade Master, AKA Cave Dwellers. It was the year home video became a thing. Both C Thomas Howell and a Dudley Moore had three movies out that year.
1984, I salute you.
