This is my favorite knitting store ever, Purlescence Yarns, located in Sunnyvale, California. Their staff is patient, kind, and above all, caring. They held a 24-hour knit-a-thon for Halos of Hope, an organization that collects hand-knit caps for cancer patients. I like this approach much more than donating hair to places like Locks of Love, which has a nasty tendency to sell the hair they get rather than actually make wigs out of it.

There's something wonderful about a hand-knit item, too. Even the imperfections (which seemsto comprise more of my knitting than anything else) are part of the character and charm. These caps didn't come off an assembly line in China.
