The NYC cultural landmark and graffiti mecca was painted white last night to make way for the renovation/demolishment of the building for luxury apartments. I knew it was coming but didn't think I would be so upset when the gauntlet came down. I actually cried when I saw this:
I got to gaze on this beautiful building every time I went to work (as I took the G to the 7 to the 123) and I'm glad I got that experience. Even though I've seen it a million times, it was always a treat. It's right by a turn on the 7 so the train always slows down almost like a tour guide making sure you get a good look. I get people not understanding graffiti - everything done at 5 Pointz was legit and legal btw - and I get people wanting to make money. It just really sucks. I wish it could have been saved. That work was beautiful and is just completely erased.
