I didn’t see this covered here this weekend, but sorry if it’s a repeat.
A Republican headquarters in Hillsborough, NC was bombed this weekend. Whoever did it wrote, “Nazi Republicans leave town or else” nearby.
Obviously this is terrible (very fortunately, it doesn’t look like anyone was harmed), and I want to highlight a few things that resulted from it.
First, Trump yet again demonstrated his inability to simply show compassion and empathy for other people in the wake of disaster, commenting
Sure, sure, definitely the thing to do here is to blame someone who was clearly not involved and then shout, “THEY DID IT BECAUSE I AM THE BEST!” into the void.
Second, there was an immediate response from Democrats to condemn the bombing, and a gofundme page to raise money to rebuild the building was fulfilled and surpassed within 40 minutes:
under this statement:
As Democrats, we are starting this campaign to enable the Orange County, North Carolina Republican office to re-open as soon as possible. Until an investigation is undertaken, we cannot know who did this or why. No matter the result, this is not how Americans resolve their differences. We talk, we argue, sometimes we march, and most of all we vote. We do not resort to violence by individuals or by mobs. So, let’s all pitch in, no matter what your party affiliation, and get that office open again quickly.
Just some fun compare/contrasts of the attitudes represented by Trump and by...not-Trump, basically. The wide category of “non-Trump” humans.
