...just kind of dropped into conversation that her wife works with so-and-so and maybe her wife knows someone my wife knows.
I'm old enough that it was a) a gentle personal revelation, in that I don't seek out or press my work acquaintances on their personal lives but I'm always happy to listen; b) a nice thought, because she's a nice lady and I'm glad she has a happy family; and c) a delightfully blasé example of the new normal. She lit up a little bit when she said "my wife," the way I surely do when I say "my wife." Like we've got better people than we are by our side. And so may we all, in perpetuity throughout the universe.
Things do get better. They really do.
