of the umfamily Christmas tree!

Here's a touch of back story. I spent six years in a relationship (that should have been a one nighter). When I ended it, the geeklets and I lost most of our belongings, including all of the Christmas decorations. When the ex gave back about 1/3 of what we previously had (almost a year later), he included the eldest's keepsake ornaments (just the super obvious ones), none of mine, none of glamgeek's, no lights, no tree, none of the handmade things that dated back to MY great grandmother (who had created a bunch of felted ornaments when they were super poor). I had things that I made as a child, and also things my older geeklets had made when they were still very little.

The first year we had a plant instead of a tree. The next year we had a 4 foot tree, that I found in the free section of craigslist. We made things to put on it, and used some of the things that were in the box the tree came in.

This tree isn't fancy. Umdude's mom had 4 trees in the attic, we were gifted this one. It doesn't have expensive stuff covering it. It's a hodgepoge of what we've bought and made and been given in the last 5 years. It's not the 15 foot wonder that is at one of the geeklets grandparent's house. It's not the fiber optic sci-fi themed tree I spent 6 years building.

Know what? Doesn't matter. We are building this one, as a family, and I think that will mean quite a lot, in the grand scheme of things. My geeklets have been witness to starting from nothing, and slowly rebuilding, and I think that's the best lesson of all.

Happy Christmas, or whatever you celebrate, and thank you, all of you, for allowing me to be a part of the very best online community! Hugs!
