Hey guys, I'm pretty much terrible at managing my finances. I mean, I work hard and live within my limits and all, but taxes are always kind of a clusterfuck. I've been doing them myself for years, but every year it gets a little more complicated and I get a little more disorganized.
I'm basically a small business. I used to do more gigs where I would get paid and have 1099s, but now most of my money comes to me directly in cash. Most of the time I just log the cash in a spreadsheet as I make it, but sometimes I'm a little lazy and just write it on a note card. I also have receipts scattered around various file folders and shoe boxes and every year it's a scramble to cobble everything together and input it into turbo tax.
This year looks like it's going to be better than previous years and that shit just isn't going to fly anymore. I don't have a payroll or inventory, so I don't need anything really complex, but I would like to have something that would allow me to input and manage my earnings and expenses in a way that makes sense. Any suggestions?
(I'm also going to put this out to friends in my profession, but I know that the hivemind has a lot of people from a wide variety of backgrounds, so I thought I'd also pass it by you guys)
