I just found out that I've been chosen to participate in the Digital Library of Georgia/Digital Public Library of America Public Libraries Partnership. It's a project funded by the Gates Foundation to train librarians in digitizing heritage collections. Some of the libraries I work with have great historical collections from the post-bellum and Civil Rights era materials, as well as a mass of ephemera of small-town, country life of the early to mid-twentieth century. This project will help preserve the heritage of these communities and also make it easier to access and use.
I worked as an archivist and curator for several years before moving into libraries so I'm excited to work with historical materials again! Plus I get to go up to Savannah for training (Georgia meetup?!).
What interesting history happened where you live? What cool artifacts have you gotten to lay your grubby mitts on?
